ENODO STRENGHTENS ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY

At Northumbria University, England, the School of the Built and Natural Environment has renewed a long-standing partnership with the French company ENODO, world leaders in producing interactive virtual models using game engine technology. The latter recently visited the School, which has also received international recognition for its work with virtual reality.
ENODO was founded in 2004 by architects with a vision for using computer games to deal with the challenges in communicating designs and technical data and quickly formed a close relationship to world-class game engine developers CRYTEK. ENODO has since established itself as a market leader in the creation of highly realistic, complex and interactive virtual environments.
On their visit to Northumbria University, Laleh Sahrai and CEO and co-founder Jean-Baptiste Reynes discussed the future of interactive virtual environments with staff and students, giving three examples of their own ground-breaking work.
- First example was in the field of Historic Visualisation, recreating ancient buildings and archaeological sites. The company have created an interactive real-time model of the now nearly-destroyed Abbey of Cluny in Saône-et-Loire, France. This allowed users to view and interact with the abbey has it appeared in its pristine condition.
- Second example was about Town Planning and Architecture, and h ave featured heavily in recent projects. Creating a communication and decision making tool to provide information on both macro and micro-scales to local authorities and local communities alike.
- Third example ENODO gave was about its current involvment in both the automobile and oil industries, aiding some of the world's leading companies in product development and training, using complete interactive virtual environments to do so.
Oliver Jones, lecturer in digital architecture, said :
"To date, our relationship with ENODO has been very fruitful and I look forward to its continuation. The growing research and consultancy capabilities of the School will also translate into benefits for our students, and ENODO clearly see the partnership as valuable to them.”
